Children entering kindergarten through fifth grade this fall are invited to the free 30-minute interactive learning series “Junior Historians” at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. Children and their accompanying adult(s) are asked to meet at the west entrance information desk.  The goal of the “Junior Historians” program is to cultivate an interest and passion for North Dakota’s history through stories, fun activities and discussions.

May 3 Chip Dig, 11 a.m. Digging up dinosaur bones and other fossils is hard work requiring skill and patience. Practice your paleontology skills on a chocolate chip cookie.

May 10 Build-A-Zoo, 11 a.m.  When designing a zoo, professionals consider animals’ natural habitats, which species can be placed near each other, and the environments animals need, especially when their native climates differ. Join us to explore these considerations and create your own zoo map.

May 17 Colors of Plants, 11 a.m. Plants come in a variety of colors, and some can be used to create dyes. Learn what color the plant produces, then dye a washcloth using natural plant-based dyes.
