Photographers of all ages and experience levels are invited to enter Mandan’s third annual photo contest by capturing special features in the community and surrounding areas in Morton County.  In order to capture everything going on in Mandan in 2024 and all the seasons, the contest will be open through December 31.  All category winners will receive $100 in Mandan Bucks gift certificates sponsored by local businesses. Categories include Achievement, Community, Fun, Opportunity, County, People’s Choice, Top Youth Entry and new this year, Best in Show.  The full contest overview and rules are available at visitmandan.com.

Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library Presents “Reader’s Voice Book Discussions”.  The group meets at 7 p.m. in the Library’s Missouri River Room on the first Tuesday from September to May (excluding January). Everyone is welcome and there is no charge to attend. Books are available for checkout at the library.  The library is at 515 N 5th Street in Bismarck.

Bismarck-Mandan “After 5” invites you to a Lite Dinner on Wednesday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Municipal Country Club, 930 N Griffin Street in Bismarck.  It will feature a Hat Parade, and Cathy Unterseher sharing “Silently She Cries”.  Reservations should be made by Monday, May 6 by calling or texting Darlene at 202-5570.

Anchor Christian Counseling has relocated and invites you to an Open House at their new address, 1833 E Bismarck Expressway, on Friday, May 10, from 2 to 6 p.m.  They are celebrating 30 years of helping people.

The Eckroth Music Band Night Parade is scheduled for Friday, May 10.  Expect over two dozen school bands from all over the region, joined by numerous local organizations and companies.  This year’s Grand Marshal is Bob Peske, retired band director from Bismarck High School.  The parade assembles at the Capitol Grounds at 5:30 p.m. and begins at 6:30 p.m. The route will start at the capitol grounds, go down Sixth Street to Avenue A, west on Avenue A to 4th Street, and then 4th Street North to the State Capitol West parking lot, where the parade will end.

The “People Matter Community Carnival” will be held on May 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wachter Middle School, 1107 S 7th Street in Bismarck.  It is held to connect community resources to people in need.  There will be inflatables, free food from Dream Center Bismarck, a dunk tank, a bike give-away, and multiple community organizations to help people.

The Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site will be hosting “Fibers and Flavors” on Saturday, May 11, from 1-4 p.m.  Fiber craft enthusiasts, may bring crochet, knitting, or preferred fiber craft projects to work on in the ambiance of the Former Governors’ Mansion.  The event is free, and coffee and cookies will be served. All ages are welcome, though children must be accompanied by an adult.  The Former Governors’ Mansion, located at 320 East Ave. B in Bismarck.

You are invited to “Mother’s Day Spring Tea” Sunday, May 12, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site, 320 E Avenue B un Bismarck. The menu will feature tea, scones, cheese and crackers, sweet breads, and cookies. Mandan musician Mz Mondegreen will entertain with a variety of songs and discuss her musical inspirations.  There is a cost and advance registration is required at MothersDaySpringTea.eventbrite.com.  Guests are encouraged to dress in their Sunday best.

Together 2024, a Youth Movement is meeting on Wednesday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Shiloh Christian School, 1915 Shiloh Drive in Bismarck.  Leading the gathering is a youth led 10-piece Worship Team.  Marcus Montana will be the speaker.

Event highlights include blood pressure, bone density and cholesterol screenings, speaker presentations about topics regarding improved living and independence relevant to older active adults, and group classes like chair yoga, water fitness and stretch and restore.

The STEER, Inc. Annual Barbecue will be held on Saturday, July 20, 5 p.m. at GracePoint Church, 205 43rd Avene NE in Bismarck.  Special music will be provided by the Tribute Quartet.  More information will be posted, as it becomes available.

Registration is now open for the “Buck-a-Bird” clay pigeon shooting fundraiser to benefit Gaia Home on Friday, September 13, from 1 to 5 at Capital City Sporting Clays, 12945 71st Avenue NE in Bismarck.  Registration is 12 to 1 p.m.  Gaia Home is a community designed for hospice services and 24-hour personalized care in a home away from home.    Philanthropists, shooting enthusiasts and community supporters alike are invited to participate in this afternoon event which will feature food, fun and prizes.  Learn more about this unique shooting event and register today at thegaiahome.org/buck-a-bird/.
