Entrepreneurs and other community members are invited Thursday, May 4, to share ideas for the future of buildings and spaces for sale or lease in downtown Mandan by participating in a walking tour and networking social.  The walking tour departs at 4 p.m. from the east parking lot of American Square at 101 E Main Street. Guides will describe projects and plans to improve the central business district. Participants will see the interiors of 416 W Main Street and 200 Collins Avenue and can post sticky notes to the vacant building walls to informally document preferred uses. The walk is about eight blocks in total, concluding by 5 p.m. back at 101 E Main Street.  People can participate in the walking tour, the social, or both.  No advance registration is required and there is no fee to attend.

More information about the tour and social is posted at www.cityofmandan.com in the City Meetings section, and on the “Made in Mandan” Facebook page. If you have questions, please call the City of Mandan Business Development Office at 667-3485.

The social, dubbed Startup Drinks, will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on American Square’s vacant third floor, which is available for lease. The building underwent a major renovation in 2014-2015 and now houses American Bank Center on its first and second floors.

Listings will be available of all properties for sale and lease along Main Street and in the downtown area. Information will also be provided about the Mandan Renaissance Zone, Storefront Improvement Program and other means for to assist with building acquisition, renovation, leasehold improvements, and the start or expansion of businesses.

The purpose of the tour and social is to explore “what could be” thinking. By seeing downtown spaces available, organizers hope attendees will come up with new ideas and share these opportunities with others.

The Mandan Tomorrow – Economic Opportunity and Prosperity Committee is hosting the event in cooperation with Start Bismarck. Coordinators are staff from the City of Mandan Business Development Office and Bismarck-Mandan Development Association.

Start Bismarck is a non-profit organization that is fostering a technology-based startup culture by promoting startup functions, organizing key events, and embracing creativity.
