Wednesday, August 16, three student authors will read their narratives from the book “Green Card Youth Voices: Immigration Stories from a Fargo High School,” and will answer questions about their journeys at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library’s Meeting Room A at 515 N 5th Street in Bismarck. The public is invited to attend the free event. Open House starts at 5:30 p.m. with the readings at 6:30 p.m. The Green Card Youth Voices Exhibit will be on display August 2 through August 16 throughout the main floor of the library.
The book is a collection of 30 students’ immigrant stories and is designed to generate awareness about the immigrant experience. It provides young immigrants with a platform to tell their own narratives, in their own words. A book signing will follow the presentation, and books will be available for purchase. This book is a project of the Minneapolis-based nonprofit Green Card Voices which provides adult immigrants, and more recently, immigrants who are high school students, with a platform to share their personal stories concerning their journey to America.
