Learn About Local Elected Office Opportunities at March 11 Information Meeting
The Leadership, Pride and Image Committee, responsible for implementing portions of the Mandan Tomorrow strategic plan, is conducting an information session for people exploring the possibility of running for local, elected leadership positions. Intended to encourage candidacy, the information session will occur Tuesday, March 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Braves Center, 901 Division Street NW.
"Our goal is to promote interest in leadership so the public has candidates from which to choose for each open position on the city and county commissions as well as school and park boards," says Committee Chair Laurie Leingang. “The session provides first-hand insight about rewards and challenges in these positions. We hope the information session helps result in candidates who have the abilities to meet expectations.”
Positions up for election in 2014 include two seats on the Mandan City Commission, two on the Morton County Commission, three on the Mandan Park Board, and four on the Mandan School Board including one rural position.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from current commission and board representatives about their experiences and position responsibilities to determine if public-service is something they should pursue. Information packets provided at the session outline requirements to file for candidacy.
The information session is free. Advance registration is encouraged via the City of Mandan website at www.cityofmandan.com or by contacting Laurie Leingang at 400-8631 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
