United Blood Services is proud to once again partner with area law enforcement and fire fighters for the 7th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, September 11-13 from 12-7pm Wednesday and Thursday, and 10am-5pm Friday at Kirkwood Mall.
Since 2007, when the event began, over 1500 people have donated blood with over 500 people volunteering for the first time. The team that recruits the most blood donors during the three days will receive a traveling trophy and bragging rights.
“As first responders in emergency situations, these agencies know the need for a strong blood supply and have shown incredible support for this effort over the years,” said Stephanie Radenz, donor recruitment manager, United Blood Services. “This is a fun community event that has far-reaching impact to our patients who need blood.”
The Battle of the Badges blood drive allows donors to choose which organization they want to donate blood on behalf of; Team Fire or Team Law. Donors will receive a free t-shirt and can register to win door prizes.
To donate blood, volunteers must be at least 16 years old (16 year old donors need minor donor permits which are available at the blood drive or online), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health.
