
Free Chevy Youth Baseball Clinic Registration Deadline - All youth baseball and softball players, ages 6-17, from throughout western North Dakota interested in learning how to be a better player are invited to participate in a free Chevy Youth Baseball Instructional Clinic. The clinic, scheduled for June 14 and 15, will be offered by the West Dakota Chevy Dealers and Cal Ripken Baseball. BECEP Preschool Openings - Bismarck Early Childhood Education Program will have preschool openings this fall for children who are 3 1/2 or 4 years old by Aug. 1st and are toilet-trained and have age-appropriate developmental skills. Children need to have good social and language skills, an average activity level for their age, and can separate easily from parents during screening. Sanford Health Tobacco Education -The Bismarck region of Sanford Health is now offering outpatient tobacco education sessions to people who are ready to quit using tobacco or to those who have already quit and are looking to maintain a tobacco-free lifestyle. Certified tobacco treatment specialists at Sanford Health can provide the support and encouragement needed to live tobacco-free by offering individual counseling, self-help materials and support. The tobacco education program at Sanford Health is available by enrollment Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sanford Medical Center, 300 N. Seventh St., Bismarck. It is available for all tobacco users, including smokeless. Insurance may cover part or all of the costs, so please check with your provider prior to enrolling. AARP “Why I Love My Grandparents” Essay Contest: In celebration of the critical importance of grandparents to North Dakota families, AARP will sponsor its second annual “Why I Love My Grandparents” essay contest this summer. The free contest is open to students ages 6-18 in public or private schools, elementary to high school. Deadline for submission of essays is July 31st, 2013. 2013 Governor’s Photo Contest - Any North Dakota amateur photographer is invited to submit entries to the 2013 Governor's Photo Contest. Winners will be awarded cash prizes and publication opportunities. Photographers will be judged on their ability to showcase North Dakota as a “Legendary” destination in the following categories: Adventure, Attractions, Events, People, Scenery and Wildlife. Entries will be judged on originality, interest of the subject matter, visual appearance and consistency with the category theme. Photo entries should be taken within the last three years and must be in full color. Only amateur North Dakota photographers/residents are eligible to enter. There is no limit to the number of entries allowed per photographer. Although cropping is permissible, digital alterations or enhancements are discouraged. State Historical Society Photo Contest - The second annual State Historical Society of North Dakota Photo Contest is accepting entries until Dec. 31, 2013. The subject for the 2013 contest is Theaters in North Dakota. The theme of theaters includes movie, drive-in, and stage theaters, amphitheaters, and opera houses. Theaters have played a major role in the entertainment of North Dakotans for many years and are currently facing another technology change and threat to their survival.
